OBBIE ORELLANAObbie Orellana is an 18-year-old from South Central Los Angeles. He graduated from John Muir Middle School and Boys To Men in 2018. Afterward, he graduated from Augustus F. Hawkins High School in 2022. While being a student in Boys To Men, he learned the values of confidence, respect, and culture which he learned from his mentor, Mr. Rector. Learning those attributes has helped and shaped him into the young man he is today.
Obbie has always wanted to help and give back to the community he grew up in. However, he was unsure of how to do so, and that’s why he gained his love for psychology. Learning about the brain and how it functions in the human body, and how to be able to explain human behavior has always been one of his interests. With his knowledge, he discusses the topics of anxiety, depression, self-harm and etc. Despite the stigma that affects young men in Black and Hispanic communities regarding the topic of mental health. Obbie’s passion is not only to bring awareness but demonstrate support to his family, and to the entirety of the community he grew up in. Obbie thanks the Boys To Men Program and is blessed to be a returning alumnus. He is eager to help and shape the future generations of young men that come.
Joshua OrellanaJoshua Orellana is a 26-year-old from South Central Los Angeles. Former graduate of John Muir Middle School and Boys To Men Enrichment Program class of 2010 at the age of 13. Such as having respect, integrity, and commitment, which are just a few of the principles that his mentor, Mr. Rector, taught him.
As a father of three, he teaches his children to value these characteristics so they can grow into diligent, resilient, and responsible individuals. Joshua believes the program had such a positive outcome on his personal and work life, which is why he decided to place his younger brother, Obbie Orellana, into The Boys To Men Enrichment Program at a much younger age. Joshua’s main trajectory is to be able to provide a sense of support not only to his family but to the community he was born and raised in. As he always had a sense of wanting to help people, and with his skills in auto body and paint, he now runs his own automotive paint job business. In which he helps people make their car restoration or paint job dreams come true. One of Joshua’s most notable accomplishments is the work he does now as a mentor and program coordinator with the T.Y.M.E. Foundation. As an alumni of Boys To Men, Joshua thanks and appreciates The T.Y.M.E. Foundation and Mr. Rector for allowing him to return and help the younger generation of his community.
